The Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania, launched in 1993, presents the most precious examples of Transylvanian built heritage connected to the Hungarian culture, with the purpose of drawing the general public's attention on values, heritage and our responsibilities towards these. The publications of this series are recommended especially to those who at present own or use such values, but also to those who are interested in history, architecture and the Transylvanian art.
Number 42 of the Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania presents the castle placed east from the Colţeşti village. In the Middle Ages, Colţeşti and Rimetea belonged to the Torockai family. The stone castle, built during the 14th century, then extended during the 15th, soon became the administrative headquarters of this region. The castle, not suited for a residence, was abandoned by the family in the 16th century. The inhabitants of the village provided some maintenance works for a while, but at the beginning of the 17th century, it was destroyed by the Austrian army.
