The Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania, launched in 1993, presents the most precious examples of Transylvanian built heritage connected to the Hungarian culture, with the purpose of drawing the general public's attention on values, heritage and our responsibilities towards these. The publications of this series are recommended especially to those who at present own or use such values, but also to those who are interested in history, architecture and the Transylvanian art.
Number 8 of the Series Historic Buildings in Transylvania presents the Dormition of the Holy Mother timber church in Baia Mare, which stands upon a hill north to the town. The church was built in Chechiş Village in 1630, and was regularly used until 1827, when a new brick masonry church was completed. At the middle of the 20th century, the unused building was relocated to Baia Mare, belonging ever since to the open-air section of the Ethnographic Museum, where it illustrates outstandingly the Romanian timber church-type.
